"You have NO idea how precious that brush is! You risked us all by taking it!"

A Wielder's Duty is the second chapter of Chicory: A Colorful Tale. It begins after defeating the boss at the end of Chapter 1.

Summary[edit | edit source]

After defeating the corruption, Pizza wakes up in Blackberry’s house with the Brush at their feet. Under questioning from Blackberry, Pizza admits they were not given the Brush, but took it without permission. Blackberry instructs them to return it to Chicory at once. As they pick it up, Pizza's bond with the Brush grows deeper, unlocking paint that glows in the dark. Blackberry tells Pizza not to let it go to their head.

Returning to the Wielder Tower, Pizza finds Chicory sulking in her room. They offer the Brush but Chicory refuses to take it back, letting Pizza keep it. Oblivious to Chicory's depressed mood, Pizza excitedly promises to return color to the world. Outside the Wielder Tower, they meet Turnip, who travelled from Potluck to inform the Wielder of strange happenings at the Wielder Temple. Exclaiming themself the new Wielder, Pizza sets off for the temple.

After helping Turnip find their way out of Nibble Tunnel, Pizza arrives at Potluck, their hometown. They greets their Mom and Dad who give Pizza the Camera Map. Pizza also meets their sister Clementine who invites them to the Art Academy. Pizza also learns from Couscous that the way to the nearby town of Elevenses has been blocked by falling rocks.

Progressing onward through Appie Foothills, Pizza finds the entrance to the Wielder Temple blocked by a coded door. They clear the way to Elevenses, to learn the code from the former Wielder Cardamom. Soon after opening the door, Pizza gets a phone call from Chicory, who apologies for her cold behaviour earlier and offers encouragement. Exploring through the temple, Pizza learns about the origins and history of the Brush, before fighting another corruption in the bottom level of the temple.

Boss[edit | edit source]

Though the boss does not have an official name, it is often referred to as Boss 2 or by its backing track Probably Ancient Evil.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • In the game files, the boss is refered to as Nighthare.
    • This implies it is, in fact, a hare, as opposed to the common misconception that it is some sort of insect.
